Although it was no surprise Porsche would release an all wheel drive version of the 997, what was a surprise was the wider body (then the standard Carrera 2) that came with it making it look more aggressive and allowed a wider set of tires on the rear for more traction. The Porsche 997 Carrera 4 came standard with the amply powered 3.6-liter flat 6 engine that was also available in the rear wheel drive version.
