In 1999 the Porsche 996 GT3 Carrera was released which was basically a street legal racecar. The 996 GT3 was Porsche’s news version of the legendary lightweight RS models of the past. The GT3’s engine displacement was bumped to 3.6 liters and the horsepower was pushed to 360 by using an engine block similar to the legendary GT1. Like its forefathers the GT3 achieved part of its great handling from its reduced weight, which means it did not have the creature comforts of the standard Porsche 911 including no rear seats. Along with the GT3s reduced weight and improved horsepower, its drive train did not have Porsche Stability Management, making it a true purist track car. The Porsche 996 GT3 produced 1999 to 2001 is one of the most sought after cars of the 996 models due to its limited production and incredible performance.
